Our third Spotlight Interview is with Alysha. I was low-key obsessing over her page. Like me, she’s a mother and a wife, she balances her life with style and an amazing amount of grace. Aly has amazing taste but her true beauty was definitely apparent when I read her interview. She’s full of heart and soul and she knows appearance is the last thing that makes you worth while. Please keep reading for a dose of your daily inspiration:
First of all, tell us where you grew up and what kind of childhood did you have?
I was born and raised in Huntington Beach, CA. I had a pretty great childhood. I was home schooled and grew up in the church, I even went on many mission trips to places like China and Mexico. It was amazing to see how other people lived and to experience other cultures.
Tell us your experience with bullying?
Well since I was home schooled I didn’t deal with much bullying. There were a few neighborhood kids and my siblings who did say and do things that definitely affected me in a negative way. I was a pretty sensitive kid and I took things very personally until I grew older and matured and realized that most bullies are usually insecure themselves. I no longer take things personally and live by this quote “hurtful people are hurt filled people who need love the most”.
When was the first time you realized your worth?
This took me a while to actually achieve. I’d say I didn’t fully understand my worth until I was about 26 years old. About 2 years ago when I started my body positive/plus size style inspiration Instagram account and I realized my worth was not based on my appearance or beauty or anything other than my mind, spirit, personality, and compassion.
How important is a sense of humor when dealing with hard times?
After years of hardships and struggles, I think humor was one of the most helpful things to get me through. I love laughing and I truly think it’s medicine for a broken soul.
Tell us about your favorite go-to outfit that makes you feel ultra chic and sexy?
Oh I’d say that would have to either be a nice pair of perfectly fitting jeans or a pencil skirt paired with a crop top and some fun heels.
What’s the best advice for self-care?
Taking time for yourself, fill yourself up with activities that make you feel good whether it’s painting your nails, reading a book, taking a nap or exercising. Do something that makes you feel happy and will give you that energy to take on anything. For me that is taking care of my skin, I love doing a whole skincare routine to make me feel like I’m really caring for myself and ready to take care of business.
What are you up to currently?
Currently I’m a mother of 2 great kids. I love being a mom, but it can be more than I can handle sometimes. My beautiful 8 year old son has Tourette’s syndrome along with severe ADHD. I used to shy away from talking about my son’s Tourette’s and ADHD, but I’ve recently realized that talking about it not only helps others who are dealing with something similar, but it’s also important to talk about things in a healthy way, rather than just stuffing things deep down and ignoring them.
Where do you see yourself in 5 years?
Aside from being the best mom I can be, I hope to break into the plus size modeling industry. That has been and will always be my biggest dream!
What’s the one piece of advice you could give your younger self?
Don’t listen to those who have told you you can’t. Do it anyways! Be proud of yourself no matter what other’s think. You’ll go through a lot in your life, but the good will always outweigh the bad. Do your best always.
Who would you say is your biggest inspiration?
My parents. I know that sounds cliche and all, but honestly they are the ones who shaped and molded me into the strong mother/woman I am today. They’ve always supported me even when I’ve made bad decisions. I aspire to be like them everyday.
